I love the graphics on this potential album cover! Yes, I am proud of this band and the typography for Elevin, as Elevin represents my son, Christian's band. The type is masked out on thick white plexiglass and illuminated with RGB lights. The light box in this image is sitting in front of the drum kit. The effect is perfect for an album cover. While many folks download music for their iPods or iPhones, there is still a culture that embraces the physical album, whether disc or vinyl. As a mom, I felt privileged to be part of the audience in Christian's music studio on his birthday. He is quite a talented individual; his passion is music. Thank you Christian for letting me sing California Stars with Patrick.

Robin Moore, a storyteller of 30 years, will be joining JMS on Wednesday, October 29 for workshops with students and teachers. He has told stories to countless audiences and was named the National Storyteller of the Year and Author of the Year by the PA School Librarians Association. Robin is author of Groundhog Press, an independent publishing house which produces books and recordings of Oral Traditions. Robin currently serves on the faculty at The Graduate Institute for the Oral Traditions and Writing Program in Bethany, CT. Leaves, Lines, and Names
Students drew their names by tracing letters with glue and placing crumbled autumn leaves on the letters. The activity was multi-sensory with touching the leaves, crumbling the leaves, and squeezing glue. Kindergarten and First Graders have been exploring the Artist's Toolkit. Students at all grade levels use this site throughout the year. Click on Artist's Toolkit.
Students have been creating and personalizing sketchbooks for recording Artistic Processes: Creating, Conceiving, and Developing Ideas, a National Visual Arts Standard. All students, Kindergarten through Grades 6, will use their sketchbooks as one of many venues to apply the District Goals:
Students studied artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, a 16th Century Italian Painter, best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of objects such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, and books. He painted representations of these objects on canvas in such a way that the whole collection of objects formed a recognizable likeness of the portrait subject. Students practiced observing anddescribing what they noticed in Giuseppe's works, especially Vegetables in a Bowl or the Gardner. Students furthered their observation skills by painting place mats for Region 6's elementary schools annual Harvest Luncheons. Flowers, herbs, and vegetables from the school gardens were arranged as a still life. Students not only created observation studies, they practiced setting the table: the place mat (12" x 18" white paper, the napkin (a paper towel, folded and set at the left), a small paint brush (the salad fork, set at the left), a bigger paint brush (the luncheon/dinner fork, set at the left), and a pencil (the knife, set at the right). The first day of Art classes, was spent drawing Self Portraits: Who am I and How am I Seen? The Self Portraits will be kept in a portfolio until the Sixth Grade Moving Up Ceremony. Students will receive a collection of their Self Portraits, K-6, which document developmental growth and the creative process. Some art projects will come home during the course of the academic year. Most projects will remain at school and brought home in a portfolio in June, so that artwork can be displayed at school and special exhibitions. I am looking forward to seeing familiar faces at Region 6's three elementary schools. Welcome Kindergarten and Pre-K students! Students will have a Special every day: Art, Library, Music, P.E., or Wellness. In addition to having a Special, there is Enrichment. Click on the Enrichment tab on your school's homepage to follow the twitter feed of on-going activities.

Projects may vary in themes and often connect to classroom content areas as a means of 21st Century learning. While smocks are available in the Art Room, an oversized T-shirt is suggested with your child’s name on it. Please do not hesitate to contact me. As I travel to three schools, the best way to reach me is via email at [email protected]. |
