In Wellness, students made sugar candy with molasses and snow, like the experience Laura Ingalls Wilder had in the book The Little House in the Big Woods. In addition to making snow sugar candy, students have read the book Snowflake Bentley and will be looking at the similarities and differences of snow and sugar crystals under a special microscope.
In Art, Kindergarten students worked with Sixth grade students in partnership to create snowflakes using glue lines and sprinkling glitter onto the glue to create sparkling snowflakes.
Multiage also made snowflakes with the glue process and used granulated sugar in place of glitter. Unlike glitter, the sugar melted into a liquid, and left a gluey mess! Multiage will recreate snowflakes using glitter next week. Third and Fourth Grade students practiced the art of Origami combining math and art to make beautiful six-sided snowflakes out of foil paper and recycled book pages.
